Tata Sky provides four pieces of equipment:
A minidish to receive signals from the satellite,
A set-top box called Digicomp
A card which is inserted into the set-top box, called the Digicard
A remote control for the set-top box.
Comparison between Dishtv and Tata Sky
Satellite
Dishtv uses NSS-6 to broadcast its programmes.
Tata Sky uses the INSAT-4A satellite for its DTH services.
Multi-Audio system
Dishtv offers a unique feature where you can listen to a channel in the language of your choice, if the broadcaster is giving more than one language feed. Currently two channels are available in Multi-Audio - Cartoon Network (English / Hindi) and EuroNews is available in 7 European languages.
Tata Sky provides CD quality sound without any distortion.
Video Channel
You can watch dishtv even while your TV is connected to cable. Dishtv can offer you up to 400 entertaining channels.
Tata Sky offers 55 channels with DVD quality picture. You can fix channel positions, uniform volume levels and 7 day programme schedules for all channels.
Video Games
Both Dishtv and Tata Sky provide the facility of playing Video Games.
Teletext
Dishtv provides the Teletext facility. Teletext is one-way-information service provided by the Broadcaster, which gives viewer the latest news, current affairs and general information useful to him.
In Tata Sky we can divide the whole screen in the four parts and can view four channels simultaneously.
Parental Lock
Both Dishtv and Tata Sky provide the facility of locking the programs according to your requirement.
Working of Tata Sky
Tata Sky will uplink all channels to its satellite (INSAT 4A).
The satellite will send the channels in digital quality directly to the minidish fixed on your balcony, outside your window.
The minidish relays the channels to your digicomp, where they are decrypted and sent to your television, giving you an unparalleled viewing experience.
There is an alternate solution available for large buildings. The entire building can use a single dish and carry connections to individual digicomp in every home
